The Invention Of Lying

Hooray - 100th Post (100 films this year ... bit disappointed; should have been many more! - but kids have taken a lot of my time this year - can you blame them?)

Just saw this now, enjoyed it at first, but then the jokes got routine, and there was nothing much new happening during the middle of the film. Some of it was silly, but would make me laugh every now and again. There were some emotional parts too. I felt the characters were one-dimensional, but that was the whole point of it - that kind of got to me and annoyed me ( I like character's to have DEPTH!).

Looking forward to a fun-filled 2010; there is a lot of potential on its way!

Happy New Year to you all that are reading.

Australia

Australia was a movie that really tried to be the next Gone With The Wind.

While it's a good movie, it definitely wasn't great and went way over the top. It's a little lengthy and the writing was a little over done, but nevertheless it was still a good movie. It had terrific sets and was a beautiful setting, it felt like watching one of the old classic movies that made you feel good but there was something missing.

It was over hyped, and honestly, I thought it would be a masterpiece - it was a let-down in the end.

Watch it if you want; if you have a spare 3 hours!

Wake Up Sid

A really good Bollywood Rom-Com with a very simple story - a lot of character depth. One could relate to both leads very well. The city of Mumbai features heavily in the film - a ploy by the government to boost the tourist industry there in my opinion!

It wasn't overly long like most Bollywood movies, and kept my attention throughout. Had morals and a decent storyline. Portrayed reality too which was pleasing.

Do watch if you can!

3 Idiots

Absolutely brilliant - some of the best films I have seen in 2009 have come at the end. I really do not want to give anything away. I used to be a huge fan of Shah-Rukh Khan, but now I am converted to a die-hard Aamir Khan fan. There is no comparison!

The story was perfect in my opinion. There were hardly any flaws. Boman Irani as the bad guy was also superb. This movie, I could watch this over and over again and still not got bored. Kareena Kapoor did well supporting as well.

This is being billed as the best bollywood film of the decade, and it certainly gets my vote!

Just go and watch it!

Kaminey

What a waste of time - it was billed to be one of the best gangster films of this year in Bollywood. Quite frankly, I just could not get started on it. It was dragged, dark, overdrawn. I couldn't understand the language, and the character development was not too good in my opinion.

I might give it another try on another day, perhaps?

Avatar 3D

Superb, superb film, what can I say. It is something that has not been done on the big screen before. I intend to watch it again at some point - perhaps in the much bigger IMAX screen.

So much effort and money went into this; the characters are superb, especially the main leads, Jakesully and Neytiri. In fact there is a huge fan base of the female "avatar".

My only critisicm was that of the "bad guy". He was very cliche, and he could have been a lot "darker". His script was "not the best in the world". If you watch it, you will know what I mean.

All in all , this is the fantasy film of the decade. I am sure there is much more to come... If successful, I am sure there will be more sequels, but how good will they be?

Le Serpent

On the edge, french thriller here which I have been meaning to watch for sometime (It came out in 2006!). A friend at work recommended it.

Very dark and full of suspense and twists, it catches your attention straight from the beginning.
Olga Kurylenko showed potential, but she wasn't in the film for very long. I guess this role catapulted her into the Bond Girl she is now!

I think it was the first film I have seen of the main actor, Yvan Attal; he reminded me very much of Robert De Niro!

The Box

Strange and wierd Sci-Fi thriller here. Not spectacular, but definately worth a watch.

I liked the fact it was set in the late 70s and it had that "feel" to it.

I thought I knew the ending when I saw the trailer to it, but it turned out to be quite different and suprising. A little unconvincing I know, but I still enjoyed the quirkiness of it.

Law Abiding Citizen

Really good entertaining film. Thought Gerard Butler was really good in it. Jamei Foxx played a trademark role too.

Special effects were good, so were action scenes. Surprisngly enjoyable; these roles are suiting Mr Butler quite well!

Nice twists, but the ending was predictable.

A good watch - recommended!

The Final Destination

Huge disappointment. The first was awesome, the second was good the third was so-so, and this was a load of rubbish.

More of the same old, don't rush to watch this.
