Miss Bala

I thought this was a remarkable film and scary in what, to me, appears to be a realistic, credible depiction of life in Tijuana.

I thought the main actress was exceptional in the way she allows us to view the film through her eyes and shows her increasing trauma and dislocation as she is drawn more and more against her will into the dark world of organised crime, the police, the army and their overlaps.

To me the film shows the terrible loss of innocence and the violence that is being perpetrated every day in Mexico against the Mexican people as exemplified and represented by the main character.

Grudge Match

This movie is solid entertainment with a soul. The acting was superb. I expected Stallone and DeNiro to be somewhat burnt out. But, they portrayed vivid characters. Stallone's motivation as a character was largely a mystery until about halfway into the movie. Definitely a mirror of life today. And, it had a decent ending that was digestible.

I respected their life work before. But, this movie is likely to make you a fan... or at least of the story.

Godzilla

I was really, really disappointed in the 1998 remake. It was not true to the original Godzilla legend. This Godzilla dominates, as Godzilla was meant to do. When Godzilla finally awakens and fills the screen, he lets out an awesome theater wall shaking roar that makes it clear it is "game on."

The human interest stuff was not very effective and acting was mediocre. But nicely paced and some wonderful SFX.

Bad Neighbours

I like Seth Rogen's humour in other movies like Superbad, This is the End, and 50/50 as well as some others. When I finally saw this movie, I was left with major disappointment. It wasn't as funny as I had expected. The trailer is misleading.

The characters in the movie aren't the best written ones and in the end it comes down to the actors. This movie was well acted for the most part. Seth Rogen did a good enough job with what he was given. Zac Efron was actually better than I had expected.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

I think this is the best spider-man movie through the whole series story-wise; Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield passed over Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst. Their chemistry alone is worth watching.

However, I think it went on too long and the action scenes seemed repetitive.

Brace yourselves for an obvious 3rd installment!
