Thoroughly enjoyed this amusing animation - alot of people had slated it, but I thought it was very clever. I watched it with my 7 year old who found it a little difficult to follow. It was a little hard to understand what was happening, but for an adult, it was ideal viewing - I think it was more tailored for older children/adults.
I enjoyed George Clooney and Meryl Streep's voiceovers, they worked very well together and you could feel the chemistry between them.
It was great to see another Roald Dahl book brought to life to the big screen.

The Informant!
I know I said I wasn't going to watch any movies this weekend - but I couldn't keep away!
This is one I wanted to watch, but wasn't able to go to the cinema to watch. I hadn't realised that it was more like a satirical comedy, with lots of narration - I am not a big fan of movie's like that.
There was too much dialogue and talking in this, and unfortunately it was unable to capture my interest. Matt Damon looked good for the part though - looks like he put on quite a bit of weight for the role!
I shan't be watching this again though - unless I am in need of sleep!
May watch The Fantastic Mr Fox with my daughter a bit later on!

Ninja Assasin
Felt like watching a mindless film - this fit the bill perfectly!
Full of blood, guts and gore, and of course Ninja's, this was a cliche tale of revenge with the routine storyline. Although there was a nice little twist at the end, just when you think it is a sad ending.
Cheaply made in my opinion; I wasn't keen on the action sequences that were filmed in the dark. That was a bit off-putting.
Not sure if I will watch anything this weekend - 16 films in January is a record for me - bring on February, and Mel Gibsons new movie!

Twilight
Yes - it took me that long to finally watch it! And I must say I was impressed with the result! I had brushed it aside thinking it was just another vampire movie aimed at youngsters, but I was wrong; it's a film that appeals to all ages - even to us men!
Acting performances were strong; and the film took me in its grip within the first 5 minutes - a cocktail to a good film!
Please watch if you have not seen it already - thoroughly deserved 8!

Armored
Silly script here. The line-up was superb, Matt Dillon, Laurence Fishburne, Jean Reno, but there were just too many flaws in this movie.
It was OK just to pass the time. I have seen much better films to be honest. the story has been done before and it was a very cheap attempt i'm afraid. No wonder it wasn't being shown in that many cinemas!

Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year
Sorry for the delay in updating. I saw this a week ago. I must say I was very surprised by how good it was!
The trailers that I saw looked very silly to be honest; it mis-portrayed the whole movie. The marketing people, I found out also have been criticised for promoting it as a comedy, when it clearly wasn't. Sure, there were a few gags, but it was much more than that. It was clever and thoughtful and there was a lot of thought had gone into the screenplay.
I loved this film; Ranbir Kapoor is a serious contender for star of the future - he may knock the "Khans" off the top spot before too long!

The Edge Of Heaven
I saw this following a recommendation from a friend. I must say there was a lot of character-depth and was refreshing to see the beautiful Turkish countryside. Was a little confusing at first, but you soon get to grips with the different plots going on. The characters then set off onto big emotional roller-coaster rides, which results in a very artistic ending - the audience is left to decide how the ending unfolds.
You will hate this or love it, for me, it was the latter. A bold film, which also gives us an insight into the Kurdish asylum seekers in Germany. The title of the film doesn't make sense straight away, but more after you have finished watching it and trying to figure out what it all meant!

Un Prophete
Critics are hailing this as one of the best films of the year 2009! France are hopeful of Oscar glory and I am sure it stands a good chance. The portrayal of prison life and political issues between the different races is brought to real life in this hard-hitting drama.
It's fairly long, but time just flew by. Tahar Rahim, a relative unknown, plays the role of his life. Whilst I don't wish to give the story away, in summary, A Prophet sets an example of the good cinema still made nowadays, amidst all the mediocrity. It's intelligent, brutal, funny, exciting and sad; it's a complete and perfect cinematic experience.

The Book Of Eli
Superb gripping film starring one of my favourite actors, Mr Denzel Washington. It grabs your attention right from the start, straight to the end. This is not just a post-apocalyptic tale, but is emotional and philosophical too.
There is a fantastic twist towards the end which makes you want to watch the whole movie again!
Good performances by Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis supporting. Expect to see Mila in a lot more roles in the future i'm sure. Similar film to the recent, The Road, but on a more grander and larger, meaningful scale. Please watch - you won't be disappointed!

Love Happens
This film really took me surprise.
I was expecting this to be a "Chick-Flick" but it was quite the opposite. It was more like an emotional drama. I was really surprised by Aaron Eckhart's performance; I am not his hugest fan, but he acted very well in this.
Jennifer Aniston had a typical "Rachel" role in this, but I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few flaws, but it was emotional and touching; something that I was not expecting. That was the best part of the film for me :)
Cinema tomorrow hopefully - My review of "The Book Of Eli" will follow...

The Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call - New Orleans
Looks like I totally forgot to give my review of this; saw this 3 months or so ago; it was only when my friend at work, Debbie mentioned she had watched it, so I checked what I wrote about it- but there was no review!
I do recall that it was a strange movie, but a bit different. However, after a while of watching I kind of got fed-up with the bad lieutenant's typical attitude together with typical cliche characters. However, it was the story that was quite unique, and it was interesting how all the strings were pulled together to give the ending - it had a good sequence and order about it.
One to check out if you like Nicholas Cage or Eva Mendes.

Up In The Air
This is nothing really new from George Clooney - he is depicted here as his typical, suave pretty-looking self. However, I did notice little hints of vulnerability which were good for the film. I felt there could have been a little more emotion.
The story was good in my opinion, and so was the supporting role played by young and upcoming actress, Anna Kendrick. I think her crying scene was a little pathetic, and may deny her, her first Oscar nomination.
I think the ladies will love this one; you don't need me to explain why!

The Road
Dark and depressing is the name of the game in this movie.
Some of it is really shocking. the bond between the father and the boy is very touching and emotional. You are in for a bit of a ride and the ending will make you cry.
Flashbacks were used cleverly to bring about the story in this bleak movie.
Not the best of films to watch in January - we want to see more funnier and brighter films in this month, so we feel good about ourselves!
Viggo is in top form!

Invictus
Directed by Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman turns in a strong performance as Nelson Mandela in this potential Oscar-winner.
Matt Damon does well supporting as the captain of the Springboks.
An inspiring, feel-good film. But in my opinion lacked some flavour when comparing to Clint's other work, Million-Dollar Baby and Gran Torino.
If you like South African Politics and Rugby, then this is for you.

Universal Soldier: Regeneration
It was a long time since I saw the older prequels to this movie, so thought I would give this a chance, since IMDB rating was quite high.
I could not have been so wrong, it was hugely disappointing. Mindless action, and JCVD who was the reason I saw this was barely in the film! I think IMDB votes were from people who were directly involved in the film and gave it a 9 or 10!
This one I would like to forget!

Sherlock Holmes
Kick starting 2010 at the cinema was this film. Trailer looked promising. However, there was one main thing that got on my nerves, and that was Robert Downey Jnr's put-on british accent! It just didn't sound right and bugged me all the way through! I liked Jude Law's performance as Watson and his bond with Sherlock, was pretty good and funny.
Rachel McAdams character was a bit of a non-starter, and she wasn't really necessary in the plot.
The film has been left open for further sequels. Lets see how they fare!

Zombieland
Fabulous, funny zombie film, with a lot of fun, laughs and depth surprisingly. IMDB ratings are high. Its easy to follow, and quite sophisticated and clever in parts. I particularly enjoyed the cameo by Bill Murray, haha.
Its a short film, at just 82 minutes. You can watch it easily if you are pushed for time. Good entertainment!
Doing well so far - and it's only the first day of the year!

The Rebound
First film of 2010 - I . was really looking forward to watching this. I haven't see Ms Zeta-Jones on the screen for a long time. I admire her a lot, but don't admire her for marrying Mr Douglas!
Anyway, turning to the film, in my opinion it was just a normal rom-com with ups and downs and, sorry to spoilt it, but a happy ending. I admit the acting was indeed very good; that was the main ingredient that kept the story together. I heard many good things, but they didn't live up to my expecatations. Perhaps I expected too much.
Not a bad film still. Do watch, especially if you are a fan of CZJ.
