Christian Bale is mediocre, Joel Edgerton is surprisingly good, but the rest of it sucks. The whole thing lacked any kind of oomph. No spectacular Red Sea parting, none of the atmosphere of such a great and legendary story. Just an atheist agenda pushing along a sad little pram of replacement theories.
There were historical inaccuracies as well which I won't go into. I must say though, that my 12 year old daughter thought it was alright - but she has not seem the Ten Commandments nor the brilliance of Heston and Brynner!

P.K.
A film like PK can never be made again in Hindi Film Industry because of it's vast variety of content and emotions which directly grips the audience along with the characters. With PK being made, the scale of good cinema has risen further. Raju Hirani has proved that a movie with a strong content can be made with fun and comedy as well. All the characters have their own importance and every incident feels real as one can easily connect with the moments happening in the film. Direction and scripting is so good that you can not point out what mistakes are there. It might not be a perfect film but it is a much better film.

Paddington
I have to state this before continuing with this review, prior to seeing this I was very reluctant and hesitant as to what I was due to view. After growing up hearing the stories and watching the animated tales of Paddington Bear, I was unsure as to whether a CGI-heavy live- action tale could really establish a story that portrays the bear in all his charm; well, my predictions were woefully inaccurate. 'Paddington' is a very well-executed adaptation of the titular bear for a 21st century audience.
From the producers of Harry Potter, 'Paddington' delivers a family-friendly and charming atmosphere whilst conveying an endearing and gloriously comedic tale about a bear and his adventures in London. One of the late and great films of the year, Paul King's irresistibly warm story creates a sense of nostalgia whilst boasting a quintessentially British feel and pitch-perfect humour that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

The Grandmaster
This film tells the biography of a martial arts master, whose life is interrupted by love and war.
"The Grandmaster" starts off visually stunning, as Tony Leung and the adversaries fight in the rain in epic style. The water movement is so stylish that the expectations I have arecimmediately lifted up.
Throughout the film, the sets are lavish and the visuals are consistently captivating. However, I found the plot a bit confusing and the pace far too slow. The romantic subplot feels cumbersome and over poetic and cliched.
Tighter editing, and maybe the last half an hour cut would have been an improvement.

Horrible Bosses 2
I was robbed of 2 hours today and that's more horrible than any boss anyone could ever have.
I debated many times if I should get up and walk out of the theatre. The movie had very little laughs and when they said something that was meant to be a joke, it was either offensive, racist or plain dumb.
Seriously this movie was unoriginal recycled garbage - the first one as actually not too bad. I will not be watching the 3rd installment.
If I could go back in time, I'd stop myself from watching this.
Really poor. 2

The Hunger Games - Mockingjay Part 1
Enjoyed the first.
Was disappointed by the second.
This penultimate episode was dull and uneventful, as in nothing really went anywhere. In the majority of the film there was no tension. I have not read the books but I am told they did not accurately portray what happened in it.
If you wanted an action packed flick like the first two or you are the type of fan who doesn't like stuff in the book to be left out, you will be sorely disappointed as this is clearly a filler movie to get some extra cash before the series ends with the next movie.

The Drop
It's not an amazing movie by any means, but it does a lot of things really well. The tension in this movie is palpable. It just keeps getting more and more tense to the point where you're just gagging on it and want to find out what happens.
I found myself shifting in my seat quite a bit. The dialogue is hit and miss, conversations between characters seem awkward at times. James Gandolfini gives a nice final performance as Cousin Marv. Noomi Rapace is fine here, but I could've used more to her character. I would've liked to see the relationship between her and Hardy have a bit more "feeling".
Although the twist doesn't really pay off that tense build, it is very satisfying. This is just a really solid film that is worth checking out. It could have been great...

Interstellar
Poorly developing plot, immature explanation of astrophysics, unbelievable and unrelated events and characters, special effects leveled to a Disney comedy, and horrible music are only parts of my negative impression.
Even Mathew McConaghey did not seem believable looking at her daughter, older than himself. Matt Damon probably did his career's worst acting. The robot was another annoying part. What did Anne Hathaway and two other guys add to the story?
Mr. Nolan looked completely confused in delivering a solid message: Awareness of climate changes, saving human species, teaching relativity theory to common movie goers, or the power of love. Each of them bold and superficial.

Nightcrawler
This is one of the few films that has held me in my seat from beginning to very end.
The storyline, script, filming and acting combine into the perfect storm of a brilliant film. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a character, on what I can only describe as at the higher end of the autistic spectrum and deserves an Oscar nomination for this role. His character is perfectly matched by Rene Russo playing the role of her career as the success seeking ageing news editor. And a shout too for Riz Ahmed as Rick, Gyllenhaal's assistant.
Its a clever, dark and witty movie.

How To Train Your Dragon 2
I can honestly say I've never seen a sequel better than it's predecessor, but How To Train Your Dragon 2 does nothing but improve and top the first one.
The music was the best I've heard in a very long time. The story introduced so many things that was simply another piece of master storytelling. The relationships in the movie, especially Toothless' and Hiccup's, were written to their absolute strongest.
After all the films I've seen, I have never come across a friendship stronger than Hiccup's and Toothless'. The way they write that relationship has never been done before.
The villain was chilling and the characters' outcomes were emotional, and voiceovers were perfect. The best animation this year!

Haider
Haider, a take on the timeless Hamlet, is set in 1995 Kashmir. This is a movie where the personal tragedy of Hamlet's life is seamlessly sewed in with the tragic story of the state of Kashmir.
Haider is a story of love, hate, revenge, insanity, possession, belonging, and not belonging. I wish we saw the process of Haider getting doused and plunged into Insanity.
With its grim haunting scenes, its depiction of a dark brooding Kashmir, its sharp dialogue, its frighteningly complex interpersonal relationships, and above all, the breathtaking performances of Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, KK Menon and Irrfan Khan are hard to forget.

The Judge
It's getting some harsh reviews, undeservedly. Yes, it's too long and yes, director David Dobkin needs to work on his tone and pacing, but the story is great and the performances are fantastic.
Not a simple courtroom drama at all, the story is more about Hank Palmer (Downey)'s struggle to understand his relationship with his father and to accept where he came from. It's about identity, family, and all the messiness and contradictions of life.
If you are a true film lover who revels in watching great actors practice their craft, you will not be disappointed by The Judge.
This movie is definitely worth sitting through for amazing performances by both Downey and Duvall, who could both be up for Oscar nominations for their roles as the son and father, respectively. There are many very funny moments as well as many touching moments between father and son, brother and brother.

The Maze Runner
I haven't read the book but after watching this movie I have started. I didn't know what to expect when I sat down at the cinema, waiting for the movie to begin, but it captured me from the very first scene. The mystery surrounding the place where most of the action happens, and the suspense and ominous feeling always hanging in the air was very interesting.
It was becoming clear at the end that there was going to be more to come and a sequel/trilogy was going to happen. When I went to the bookstore, there are 3 books and a prequel. I am currently half way through the first book. There is much more detail captured in the book, but so far the movie has remained true to the script.

Gone Girl
Gone Girl is directed by the mastermind of David Fincher. Amazingly written by Gillian Flynn whom wrote the novel the film is based on.
Starring Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne and Rosamund Pike as Amy Elliot Dunne. This is a crazy, intense and haunting journey. The storytelling is
intelligent and will keep you at the edge of your seat from start to end.
The soundtrack and score is effective and has huge impact on the film. The performances from all the actors, especially Rosamund Pike are top notch which really helps the element of the realism stand out in this film.
Gone Girl is easily the best film I have seen this year so far, and I have to give it a 10/10. It is also one of the best films from David Fincher in my opinion. I strongly advice everyone to go and see Gone Girl, it is one thrilling ride.

The Equaliser
So if you like Denzel then you'll love this! Standard action movie with Washington playing a calm composed character with whom people can relate. A down to earth guy who sets out to help others. Good storyline and acting. Well worth seeing if you're into your crime thrillers with plenty of action. Washington is your everyday normal guy with something extra. You'll wish you could do what he does, and his movies rarely disappoint.
If you liked him in the Book of Eli then this is for you. Ending is a bit far fetched and quite a few cliches which were some annoyances.

A Walk Among The Tombstones
Sadly, the trailer has the only two scenes Mr Neeson shoots and kills anyone already in it. That's all the action, right there. He kills 3 thugs in the first 5 minutes of the movie, and one of the bad guys in the last 5 minutes of the movie.
The rest of the movie is a slow, boring, ill written play about an unarmed retired, unlicensed private investigator who is investigating a crime that isn't even a mystery; you learn who the killers are 15 minutes or so into the movie, and the movie even starts following them. I was not impressed, and the ending drags out for no reason.
It was basically a dated, less action filled "Taken".

Queen
Its not every year (or sometimes even years) that you come across a bollywood flick that stays with you for days after you watched it. Queen is one such film that will make you want to watch it again.
The story is similar in theme to English Vinglish but stands out in execution and story telling.
Kangana Ranaut delivers her career best in Queen no doubt.

Khoobsurat
Typical Indian film about rich family and a supposed do-gooder that arrives to change their lives. This year has been a testament to really bad Hindi films. And this mess joins the pile of atrocious movies. The movie moves at a really slow pace and the characters are a little too cardboard for my taste.
Sonam's act is more irritating than convincing. More loud and obnoxious than appealing. Dialogue is nothing special -a few funny bits kept me listening.
From poorly-established families to a lack of a proper climax to the film, the script of Khoobsurat proves to be a pain. Anyone with any decent taste should stay away!

A Most Wanted Man
Being one of the last performances of Philip Seymour Hoffman, A Most Wanted Man came with high expectations. In one respect, it meets them, featuring a bravura performance from Hoffman and good turns from the rest of the cast. However, as a thriller, it fails.
The main reason to see this movie is Hoffman's performance. He completely inhabits this grizzled, world-weary agent. Watching him in this film makes one realise just how big a loss his death was to acting. Willem Defoe and Rachel McAdams also do well in their roles.
However, the film suffers from a sense of inevitability, despite handling its climax well and by omitting any real dialogue afterward, it heightens the impact. Nevertheless, it is mainly worth seeing for Hoffman's performance.

The Hundred-Foot Journey
The story is set in south France, and narrates a clash of two beautiful cultures via its respective culinary grandeur. Further embellished into the story line are two very beautiful actors. Overall, the movie leaves a very refreshing taste in the end. The entire movie has a very subtle and harmonious tone, with no significant ups or downs, clash or surprises. Its a very easy to watch, light movie that can be enjoyed with the entire family.
I feel this movie presents an excellent characterisation of the type of globalisation our society has come to bear. Unfortunately, as embodied by the reviews and ratings, it appears the western audience is not yet ready to embrace a non-western, non-Caucasian actors. I hope this changes soon.

The Keeper Of Lost Causes
Scandinavian detective films is a sign of international quality, especially for those who think that stories can be catchy without constant chases-shootings and without a thin line between law machinery and criminals.
"Kvinden I Buret" is a solid example swhich includes character actors in leading roles - a Dane Nikolaj, Lie Kaas and an Assyrian from Sweden Fares Fares (by the way, speaking tolerable Danish).
A multidimensional plot unfolds and provides additional tensions and you start to ponder who and why, the outcome is logical, although the wrongdoer's person and motives were revealed a tad early.
The film includes several clichés as well, but they are not annoying, enabling to unfold the characters and justify certain deeds.
Well worth a watch.

Lucy
I was expecting something different to be honest. Now what I actually watched was a movie that didn't seem planned elaborately. You didn't really get to know the characters well and they seemed replaceable.
Lucy herself... well let's just say she makes some strange choices (which is understandable in her drugged state) and yet, to me she's not a really well written character. The special effects are really good and watching Asian mafia in a shootout with French police looks good on that big screen!
The end is very abrupt though and you get the feeling of what an unfinished movie feels like.

What If
The summer of 2014 hasn't seen as many strong independent films like last year.
However, this is a well written film about Wallace (Daniel Radcliffe) who becomes friends with Chantry (Zoe Kazan) who is with her long time boyfriend Ben (Rafe Spall). Wallace and Chantry develop feelings for each other and struggle with what to do. It sounds cheesy and boring, but don't miss this film.
The film is well cast. Radcliffe feels very natural in the role. It's nice to see him play an everyday man instead of some epic famous character. Radcliffe is good at both and this film proves it. He also has good chemistry with Kazan.
The story can be predictable and maybe a bit forced at times, but its heart warming and grows on you. It uses artistic and visual motifs well and feels well rounded and complete.
The romantic comedy genre seems to be criticised a lot. There are plenty of junk films in it, but "What If" is a gem. It is a nice little treat at the end of a blockbuster filled summer.

The Expendables 3
Jet Li appeared for 5 minutes total and doesn't even fight :(
Action scenes are a yawn; all the been there done that. No suspense whatsoever; it's even worse than a Micheal Bay film.
The climax fight was just 3 minutes tops and was like Stallone wasn't even trying.
The storyline is just a drag and dull; the worst in the series. The "young-bloods" in this movie are just plain unlikeable, arrogant and disrespectful i.e. One of the young ones (I didn't even bother knowing his character name) screamed at Stallone to shut up. Are these kind of characters the ones we're supposed to like?
Banderas was just wasted and everyone hates his character. He was supposed to be comic-relief, but instead he's just annoying. I remembered laughing with tears watching EX2; I barely grinned at this. Stallone said he wanted to go back to the dramatic storyline like EX1 and look what happened. Not dramatic and not funny.

The Inbetweeners 2
Just got back from the first screening of this and, on the whole, found it to be a decent film, albeit not as good as the first one.
The plot is bit weak, but there are plenty of laughs along the way to keep you giggling like the inner school child that you are.
I wonder if the boys are too old now to be acting like kids, and if this will in fact be their last outing as the Inbetweeners? I just hope that if they make more the quality doesn't dip too much.
Overall, you know what you are getting when you see the Inbetweeners, and you get plenty of it. It may not win any Oscars, but it's a damn fine way to spend a rainy August afternoon.

Hercules
The trailer teases this movie as being a myths and monsters movie: it isn't. It's a fairly routine swords and sandals actioner, and the mythical critters teased in the trailer all come before the opening title, and are either tall tales depicted, or things seen unclearly from a distance. What is left is a rather dark film with a lot of battle action, pitched uneasily at a level which is too graphic for family viewing.
Dwayne Johnson does this stuff well - he looks good, has great physical presence and, even when the part is somewhat darker than usual, he remains very likable. The supporting cast are all quite good - it was interesting to see Rufus Sewell playing a goodie for once (kind of like a young Ian McShane even though McShane was also in the film, with all the best moments of humour), and John Hurt gets to play both ends of the spectrum, meek and scenery-chewing.
I quite liked this - it is certainly a lot better than this year's previous Hercules offering - but felt that it was a missed opportunity: they promised me monsters and then didn't deliver them!

The Two Faces Of January
Seems to me this is as accurate a portrayal of 'competitive' dishonesty as you'll ever see. Viggo Mortensen sets the scene beautifully in a subtle early reference that he's not all that he seems. Dunst playing an ingénue caught up in the lies and deceits of more or less everyone around her also shows a progressive development into to something less than honest. One senses that all is not going to end well - but who will win out? Early emotional allegiances with your 'favourite' character will soon have you questioning your own judgement. What, if anything, would you do? Eventually, with relentless inevitability, events turn sour - you cannot predict in which way until the action unfolds. Terrific, enthralling and tense story telling at a slow stroll. Fantastic. Go see!

Mr Peabody and Sherman
What a great animation! Really engaging and fun!
I don't know the show it's based on or the characters from it, it's a 1959 animated show that had a short run, I'll check it eventually, so this is a reinterpretation from a probably obscure show from the past, but I dare to say that I really enjoyed and got myself hooked with those characters!
I even dare to say that I think we should have one of these films every year! It was awesome! Kids learn and get curious about things, there are interesting morals, dads also can have fun with all the pop culture references, it's really a great animation! Go check this out and take your kids with you, you'll have fun beyond imagination!

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
This is a standalone movie; the story advances from the 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Since this film does use CGI extensively, let me say that the effects are extremely well done. In my opinion, the most difficult thing to pull of is to make apes on horseback look realistic and natural. They came as close to it as I think can be done.
Another reasonable question might be: When so many of the characters are apes, are you really able to tell them apart easily? Again, yes. Visual cues are utilised, making it very easy to distinguish the ape characters. This might seem like a given, but it is essential to enjoyable viewing.
The story itself is interesting and engaging. The relationship of ape to man is a touchy thing in this film, due to years of abuse and violence. It is critical that the inter-ape communication and the inter-species communication be somewhat believable, and the script handles that issue well. There are subtitles when needed. Somehow, they never seem to interfere with the flow of the story.
I recommend this film to almost anyone, subject to the PG-13 rating. Though violence is depicted, it is not gory. Nor is it championed. Instead, the film promotes peaceful communication and cooperation.

Tammy
In my opinion Melissa McCarthy is funny; given the material, given the ball, she can run with it. I believe that improvisation is her strong suit. And in recent films she has even shown that she is also able to immerse herself dramatically and is able to draw empathy from the viewer.
So when one of her films comes out I do go into it with confidence that no matter how stupid the story is, she will at least contribute to making the film watchable. Unfortunately, this time around, not even McCarthy's volatile humour could save this film. Kathy Bates was solid as always, but when the cameo performance by unknown actors is funnier than the lead roles, then something is wrong.

Chef
The movie is good, and is well made. The characters are well drawn and you get involved in them and their journeys. The movie does go on for a while though, but I did not find it boring as such.
Performances are good and very "feel-good" I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my friend who went with me. I was subtly but deftly moved at the end. This is an optimistic guy movie but women will enjoy it as well. Just a shame that the other fine cast had only cameo performances. The child actor was amazing.
All in all, an amiable comedy-drama that goes down very easy.

22 Jump Street
Keeping this brief, this is no doubt the funniest film I've seen since the turn of the year. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill make a great bromance couple, and although appearing in the disappointing "Ride Along", Ice Cube too is brilliant in this film.
Expect non-stop entertainment as excellent humour is mixed with an interesting yet simple plot, heartfelt moments and exciting action. My only complaint would be that at times it felt a little recycled from the first film. Though having enjoyed that I wasn't too fussed.
More than worth your moneys worth. If you enjoyed 21 Jump Street, then you'd be mad not to see this.

3 Days To Kill
There is great potential in this premise: An agent who hides his real life from his loved ones and has to coordinate his job and his relationships worked great in "True Lies". Instead of action the focus here lies on the comedy aspect, which is perfectly fine, if it is indeed funny. Unfortunately this is not the case here. The script is too clichéd, the humour stale, there is a lack of chemistry between Costner and Steinfeld and the antagonists fail to leave any lasting impression, so there is not a sense of threat throughout the entire film.
Its constant shifts of tone and many flaws make "3 Days to Kill" a forgettable flick in which Kevin Costner gives a solid performance but cannot outweigh the shortcomings of the script. If you are a die-hard Costner fan you might consider renting this one, everyone else should not bother.

Locke
This a low budget drama with Tom Hardy as the sole screen presence. The whole movie is filmed in a moving car.
As he takes to the road he is seemingly a man in control of his destiny, determined to do the right thing only for everything to slowly unravel. Through conversations on the phone he tries to negotiate and control crisis's.
With a premise of just one actor in a confined location it is testament to Hardy's acting ability that he can pull off such a taut, powerful performance solely based on reactions to the increasingly dramatic phone calls. Locke is unrelenting in his belief of doing the right thing and we see why when he has his "imagined conversations" with his father - these scenes in particular are beautifully shot with the use of Locke looking into the car mirrors for the man who isn't there.
It wastes very little of its short running time and overall is a captivating and rewarding film with a terrific central performance.

Edge of Tomorrow
With a juicy high-concept like "Groundhog Day meets Aliens and Saving Private Ryan", executives were probably excited to throw money at this, but it turns it wasn't such a good deal as the movie reportedly underperformed.
Stealing the movie, however, is Emily Blunt in a taut performance as one of the most convincing action heroines seen in years, finding the perfect balance between being tough as nails and haunted by her ordeal.
Without spoiling anything, the ending doesn't work and is rushed and ruined it for me. Still enjoyable, but joining Minority Report, War of the Worlds and Oblivion in the club of fine sci-fi movies - curiously all starring Tom Cruise - almost ruined by the end.

X Men: Days of Future Past
I was really expecting something great but I have to say it was just okay. I guess I must be suffering from superhero overload because I just can't get in to one movie after another that is about wanted destruction of some city.
Don't get me wrong, the visuals and and action sequences are stunning, but I guess my biggest gripe about this movie is the continuity and where exactly it fits in the other films.
Get set for yet another installment.

Miss Bala
I thought this was a remarkable film and scary in what, to me, appears to be a realistic, credible depiction of life in Tijuana.
I thought the main actress was exceptional in the way she allows us to view the film through her eyes and shows her increasing trauma and dislocation as she is drawn more and more against her will into the dark world of organised crime, the police, the army and their overlaps.
To me the film shows the terrible loss of innocence and the violence that is being perpetrated every day in Mexico against the Mexican people as exemplified and represented by the main character.

Grudge Match
This movie is solid entertainment with a soul. The acting was superb. I expected Stallone and DeNiro to be somewhat burnt out. But, they portrayed vivid characters. Stallone's motivation as a character was largely a mystery until about halfway into the movie. Definitely a mirror of life today. And, it had a decent ending that was digestible.
I respected their life work before. But, this movie is likely to make you a fan... or at least of the story.

Godzilla
I was really, really disappointed in the 1998 remake. It was not true to the original Godzilla legend. This Godzilla dominates, as Godzilla was meant to do. When Godzilla finally awakens and fills the screen, he lets out an awesome theater wall shaking roar that makes it clear it is "game on."
The human interest stuff was not very effective and acting was mediocre. But nicely paced and some wonderful SFX.

Bad Neighbours
I like Seth Rogen's humour in other movies like Superbad, This is the End, and 50/50 as well as some others. When I finally saw this movie, I was left with major disappointment. It wasn't as funny as I had expected. The trailer is misleading.
The characters in the movie aren't the best written ones and in the end it comes down to the actors. This movie was well acted for the most part. Seth Rogen did a good enough job with what he was given. Zac Efron was actually better than I had expected.

The Amazing Spiderman 2
I think this is the best spider-man movie through the whole series story-wise; Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield passed over Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst. Their chemistry alone is worth watching.
However, I think it went on too long and the action scenes seemed repetitive.
Brace yourselves for an obvious 3rd installment!

Noah
Being a muslim, I had fairly strong views about this story and therefore was disappointed that Noah's character is misrepresented. Noah is shown to be confused about the message he was being given by God.
At best, this story satisfies the delusional fictional mind of an Atheist and if watched with an open mind, you can see past it and perhaps appreciate the special effects and cinematography.

The Raid 2
This sequel is better in every conceivable way.
The action might take up a little less screen time percentage wise, but is more brutal (way more), even better choreographed, varied and memorable. I think this movie has the greatest overall collection of fight scenes in the history of action cinema, and a fantastic car chase too.
Characters have depth to them, even if on a comic book level, and are well cast and well played. Story is fairly intelligent, and more than services the action.
Everything else; filming, editing, sound design, stunts, special effects are stellar.
My favourite movie this year.

Captain America - The Winter Soldier
This is packed with very short bursts of inventive action, but it is also exactly what we expect from Marvel now and, as such, this is the first film in its catalogue that doesn't feel particularly fresh or exciting.
My biggest problem lay with the main character himself? Captain America is frankly quite a boring lead - Chris Evans still lends the role deft touches of humour alongside the credibility needed.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Interesting sets, beautifully locations, wooden characters. Too much of the story takes places in trains, a prison and the countryside. I really wish more of the plot had taken place in the hotel.
Following a confusing beginning (there is a double flashback), the story took off without any real direction or reason. When the movie ended, my feeling was "is that it?" All the ingredients were there but the cake didn't rise.
Still, I'm not sorry I saw the movie. It was different and that's always refreshing in a time of cookie-cutter plots.

Non-Stop
The movie starts out interestingly enough, but the second and third act just take on more and more preposterous aspects. The one dimensional and clichéd characters sure don't help either!
Liam Neeson is his usual competent self, and you can see that he enjoys making these movies and this late-in-life action hero status! Good, because it is well deserved! At 61 years young, to still be able to put your body through the rigours of an action movie, more power to him! Liam Neeson is not the problem, the problem is that everything else in this movie fails him and the viewers.
And climax was really odd and weird and really underscores the low quality of this movie's script, direction, casting and everything else.

300 Rise of an Empire
I found the story to be entertaining. The backstory of some old and some new characters were interesting to watch. The events which take place after 300 were awesome and led to some great battle scenes.
Rise has some equally fantastic naval battle scenes. Ships wrecks, beheadings, one on ones, and battles were all awesome and entertaining. Eva Green as Artemisia was amazing. She was terrifying at times and great fun to watch.
The ending of the movie was satisfying; could there be a 3rd installment?
A very entertaining movie, especially since I was lucky to be able to watch them both back to back in IMAX 3D.

Highway
The movie portrays two persons aggrieved with the happenings in their life coming together incidentally and search for freedom and peace in their own way. Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda are excellent.
The movie falls a little to the wayside in the second half, but then ends on a high.
Cinematography is excellent and is refreshing to see a different type of love for a change.

Dallas Buyers Club
I was hooked from the start. Matthew McConaughy gives a staggeringly good performance whilst Jared Leto steals the show as Rayon, the unlikely business partner that Ron ends up working with.
It is an extremely bitter-sweet true story, and describes the despair, hope and uncertainty surrounding mid-80s AIDS patients. What is even more impressive is the way McConaughey shows the journey that Ron Woodroof takes, from abusive, blinkered rodeo redneck to tolerant, hard-nosed businessman with more than an eye for the medical laws of his country.

The Croods
The visuals alone are spectacular, the animation is jaw dropping, the cinematography is astounding, the creature and world design is extraordinarily creative, the designers didn't hold back anything. They made their own entire world and let their imagination soar freely.
The voice-acting is good, Nicolas Cage does a surprsingly good job as the caveman father. Emma Stone is great and the rest of the cast as well.
The story itself is nothing new really. You can almost always guess what's gonna happen, but I didn't really expect an Oscar winning script from a family movie.
All in all, it's one of the better animated features I've seen in a while, and it's very well worth the watch for anyone, you wont regret it.

Get The Gringo
My main annoyance with Get the Gringo is the fact that none of the characters are likable. Every character including Mel himself are bland 1D shells of people who have nothing redeeming about them. Almost every character is doing something bad at almost all times in the movie.
We literally do not care about any of the characters by the end of the movie. Another flaw about the character Mel plays is that he is apparently superman. He will dodge any bullet, influence anybody he wants, commit any crime without being seen.
The plot itself is quite cliché and boring. Nothing is memorable.

I Spit On Your Grave 2
I have seen the original and the remake back in 2010 which i thought was a well made film. This time round the plot was different but had the same undertone of rape and violence. The sheer brutality of the scenes endured by the girl kept me watching and almost willing the girl on to survive. The lead was played very well and I found myself having to look away at several points as I am sure any MAN watching this will!

The Babymakers
This movie had potential but I felt like I had to force myself to keep watching. A lot of it was very predictable and the actors didn't have a lot of chemistry which really affected the overall film. I found myself thinking at certain parts 'would this be funny if *insert well known comedic actor here* was playing the part?'
Some parts of it were just down right silly it doesn't surprise me that it didn't screen at any of the local cinemas. The main reason for watching was Olivia Munn!

What people may find in this movie I can not understand; you experience endless closeups of Mr. Phoenix talking with his supposed Operating System, and saying things so banal and so boring that you want to just close your eyes.
I suppose it was meant to be clever, sentimental, atmospheric, beautiful, but I found it quite unbearable after an hour.I really wasn't expecting the movie to be that bad with all the prizes and the reviews it received.
It just makes me wonder how people liked the film. I'm not raging against it; it was just an experience I would very much like to have avoided.

Lone Survivor
Lone Survivor depicts the failed Operation Red Wings mission in 2005 in which 18 members of the US Armed Forces were killed in action. The film delivers a heavy handed patriotic look inside what happened during those fateful hours.
All four leads play their roles very carefully. There is a forty five minute, pulse pounding shootout between a huge Taliban force and four trained Navy SEALs. As the title suggests, the shootout does not end pretty and never even comes close to sugar coating the brutal nature of war. The entire shootout sequence is filled with hard edged moments of brutality, gore and truly gut wrenching scenes. It is by far one of the most heart racing moments in recent cinema and considering the end results, it is very heart wrenching that by the end of it, you feel as if the wind has been knocked out of you. By the end of the film, Lone Survivor makes you really appreciate the freedom you have, a feat that has not yet been achieved in film up until now.

This is a predictable thriller about the world of online gambling. Justin plays a Princeton math whiz that gets cheated in an online gambling poker game.
It's not a bad movie, it's just predictable. Moves at a fast pace and there are many gaps within the story. My biggest complaint was that it was just not gripping enough.

Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit
Chris Pine takes the role of Jack Ryan but has nowhere to go with it. Kevin Costner gets the worst of a cliché riddled script with lines like, "now you are operational". Perhaps they were going for comedy? Keira Knightly is capable of more. Kenneth Branagh makes a good villain.
The movie delivers about what you expect. There is loud music that gives away the suspense scenes. Cars crash about. Everyone you know will survive does and the world is saved for another day.
Everything is predictable.

Parkland
If you think you have seen enough on screen about the assassination, this movie doesn't go into territory covered by previous movies like "JFK". No conspiracy theories or reconstruction of the shooting. Instead its provides you with a detailed fascinating view of the events and people that you don't figure centrally on screen before.
The movie is very well directed. It gives a feel of being in the thick of things. Authentic. The acting is good with a mostly well chosen cast. Zac Efron as the doctor who first attended to JFK. Paul Giamatti as Zapruder. Tom Welling and Billy Bon Thornton as a Secret Service agents.
Overall very interesting. Worth a watch.

August : Osage County
Don't get sucked in by the ads that claim this movie is a comedy.
Meryl Streep gives her usual great performance. Julia Roberts smiles. The supporting cast is excellent.
The movie based on a play is dialogue driven. Little or nothing is done to open the play up. Sisters quibble at the dinner table. They talk in most rooms of the house, thats about it.
If you enjoy two hours of bickering sisters this is for you. If you are looking for a good movie or a good time at the movies pass on this one. Other then the cast, there is no reason to see this one.

The Wolf Of Wall Street
"The Wolf of Wall Street" is infectiously entertaining. It is probably the funniest movie I have seen all year with witty dialogue, over the top characters, and filled with energy that bleeds off the screen. Between all the fun however, there is also a story about addiction and how it can cause a downward spiral in your life whether it be drugs, money, or power.
An excellent cast. The stand out is obviously Leonardo DiCaprio, who pretty much owns and excels any scene he is in. This film really showcases his diverse range.
Overall "The Wolf of Wall Street" is a full on adrenaline ride that never loses momentum. It's directed with a lot of flair and energy and has an incredibly well written script that gives it depth and a ton of laughs. The cast is fantastic and DiCaprio gives his best and most fun filled performance to date. I really enjoyed this movie and think it's the funniest movie of the year.

Highly anticipated Pakistani Movie with the Terrorism theme.
Really enjoyed the first half of the movie. There were some nice touches. Few flaws and one of them being a very rushed ending a slow part 3. Action scenes were good and language was very bold.
Shaan/Meesha Shafi were good. Hope to see more of this coming out from Pakistan. Thought Bol was a lot better though.

12 Years A Slave
I am a bit baffled by the acclaim and accolades.
The performances are overall commendable, but nothing ground-breaking or worthy of awards. They are a bit over the top that they take away from the realism, honesty and power of the movie.
The movie itself didn't bring anything new to the genre. It sits somewhere in the middle of other slavery movies I've seen before.
It felt as though I was watching a dramatization of a biography rather than feeling the pain of Solomon's experience as well as the truth of that sad chapter in history.

Escape Plan
Escape Plan was a very fun action movie to see. It's always good to see Stallone and Schwarzenegger on the big screen. Who would've thought that the action heroes we grew up with as a kid would still be doing action movies in the future? Awesome! Schwartnegger was back to his Commando best.
Yes, there are a few flaws, but this was by far the best action movie of 2013...oh, but i've not seen Pacific Rim yet?
Solid 7.

Bad Grandpa
Bad Grandpa is a film I certainly wasn't anticipating. Unlike a lot of people my age, I don't support Jackass, or enjoy any of their films. They just seem a little too over the top for my liking.
I'm going to keep this short and to the point. Johnny Knoxville is fantastic as Irving, an incredibly raunchy and hilarious 86 year old man. Thrown into real life prank situations, he steals the show, pranking people in some bizarre and incredible ways that I just couldn't stop laughing at! His grandson within the film, Billy, played by Jackson Nicoll, is awesome as well, managing to create some fantastic scenarios which will leave you in stitches.
Despite the fact that a lot of these jokes presented are incredibly over the top, I really enjoyed the comedy here. It had me laughing the majority of the way through, and I honestly couldn't believe what they were doing in public. Jackass knows how to make pranks work, and here is easily their best work.

This is a decent movie which I think most people will enjoy especially if you know a little bit about Japan and its history. Only purists would rate this movie with ridiculously low rating. It's not the greatest movie ever, but it's not bad either. It makes you think about how important honour or Bushido is in Japan back in the feudal era, and even now.
However, I feel like this movie should have been in Japanese instead. Keanu speaking Japanese would be very cool and it wouldn't burden most of the Japanese cast to speak English quite awkwardly. They would be able to convey their emotions better too in Japanese which is kinda lacking in this movie when they speak English.
Conclusion, if you somewhat love Japan you'll quite like this movie. If not, maybe stay away from it.

American Hustle
Despite it's stellar cast and great production creds, "American Hustle" is little more than a sinners-with-a-heart of gold story. It plays like a particularly sad Woody Allen movie without the jokes. The film is definitely not a comedy, though Jennifer Lawrence provides not only the best character but most of the few laughs the film has.
Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner are particularly effective in their parts. Bradley Cooper does a solid job with the most complex character in the film. Amy Adams is fine, but not award worthy for a change.
Fun soundtrack, great costumes, hair/make-up and photography can't make up for a plot which is dull and characters who are so uninteresting.
7 - just about

Dhoom 3
Stay well clear of this unless you are a hard-core Aamir Khan fan film - he is the only reason to watch this.
Abhishek and Uday were hopeless and were very irritating; you were just waiting for Aamir to come back on the screen.
Plot was full of loopholes and most scenes were laughable. Katrina was nice - shame she was not in it as much and the story with her did not fully develop.
I just hope a 4th installment is not made, but it won't surprise me!
