Black Swan

Another spectacular movie to bring 2010 to a close.

I was extremely fortunate to watch an advance screening and the whole performance just blew me away.

This is by far one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. Natalie Portman deserves an Oscar for the tremendous performance she gave. I totally rate her and need to check out some of her previous work because I have been very impressed.

So much drama and chaos, coupled with superb acting make me want to give this movie a 10!

I think it's only the 2nd movie I have given that score!

The Way Back

Phenomenal movie here about the struggle of innocent captives who make their escape from a siberian prisoner camp all the way to India. A journey of some 4000 miles by foot.

It was based on a true story which made this movie extra special and to top it off, the cinematography was just jaw-dropping.

Truly superb feel-good movie which had action, emotion and laughs along the way, the cameo from Colin Farrell really making waves and showing how diverse he really is.

A must watch

Dinner For Schmucks

Crazy film here, which had so much to offer.

Steve Carrel was superb as always; but he could not carry this movie alone.

There were some touching moments in parts, but it was just plain stupid at times. The whole plot did not do it for me. Also found it a bit too long!

6 for good effort!

The Tourist

Well this was a film billed to be a blockbuster with a star cast of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. However found it quite disappointing.
Acting was wooden, story was weak and there was just not enough suspense. Was quite laughable in places to be honest.

If there was just one big name, it may have worked. There was just no chemistry at all.

Give this a miss!

City Island

Superb comedy drama here, with Andy Garcia playing the role of his life here. Yes ok, so he copied Robert De Niro, but he should get an award just for trying to impersonate him!

The girl playing Andy Garcia's daughter, is infact his real daughter!

Provides many laughs, but is also quite serious in some parts. It seems very realistic and very close to real life. the suburb in which they live, City Island, seems very nice and homely and is a lovely setting.

The ending is warm and touching.

Good watch - 8!

Rabbit-Hole

New movie here, which will be released in the UK next year. Was lucky to watch a screener.

It's a potential oscar winner in my opinion. Nicole Kidman gives an impressive performance and Aaron Eckheart has played the best role of his career.

It's a moving drama which has been crafted quite well. It's a simple story that has been told before many times but emotions are captured beautifully.

Worth a watch - 8

Skyline

Atrocious, atrocious movie.

It was so pointless and acting performances were very weak. I'm surprised it lasted 2 weeks at the cinema!

All I can say is, even if you love sci-fi, this story is nothing you have not seen before.

In my opinion, the films this year have been so lacklustre; I think its because there is a shortage of money due to the recession. Just my two cents...

3 - just for making effort with the special effects which were not too bad.

The American

Looks like december films are following a common theme - "the guy dies in the end." First Colin Farrell in Londone Boulevard and not George Clooney in this.

The only good thing about this was that it was very "Artsy" and set in a beautiful part of Italy - some scenes are so beautiful - makes you want to go there...

You will either like this or you won't. A word of warning; if you're expecting blazing guns and something similar to the Bourne films, then this is not the one for you. It's more of a melodrama...

London Boulevard

December account opens with this film which I saw at the cinema. To be honest, it wasn't worth going through the trouble of the snow to go and watch it.

Cast was great, but the story did not live up to what I was expecting. I thought it would be a gripping and tout thriller, instead I find it quite slow in parts and there were plenty of gaps in the movie.

In the end, I just thought to myself "what was the point of it all." Not bad, but not great either...
